18.01.2012 | Acid: Don’t Overdo It!

The human body is ruled by a balance of acids and alkalis, which need to be regulated in order to stay healthy.
The stress and often unhealthy eating patterns of modern life mean that we tend to have an overly acidic diet: a number of common “civilisation” ailments all coincide with excessive acid intake. Acidic build-up in the body is not only evidenced by serious medical problems such as stomach ulcers. First indications are a decline in physical and mental performance, hunger pangs – particularly between meals – or heavy, sometimes painful, limbs.

In fact, however, it is very easy to look after one’s body and regain a healthy balance of acids and alkalis. A list of acid and alkaline foods can be found below.

Another important factor is to eat carefully. Consuming raw fruit and vegetables in the evening causes fermentation and increases the body’s acid content. Equally, alcohol and especially animal proteins are high in acids. Therefore, a typical “cold season” diet is highly likely to change the body’s pH balance from alkaline to acidic.

Take the initiative now: help nature along by staying healthy. We recommend one alkaline day per week, and the inclusion of base powder in your diet (available in the VIVA shop). If you are already suffering from health problems, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will provide qualified advice and/or treatments (e.g. detox).
